Becoming an Inspirational Singer and Songwriter
I am a self-identified Black Canadian citizen living in Canada for over 10 years. I started writing when I was 19 years old. However, what’s most important to know about Hazeline Taffe is that my inspiration truly began after going through tremendous social suffering. I am a mother who lost a child with no medically diagnosed reason. I’ve spent a long time trying to find answers as to what might have gone wrong, besides the fact that I did not receive the care I should have due to the hospital’s limited staff.
This was the most challenging time of my life — having to carry that loss while caring for my other children. I continued to pursue my career goals, but then my physically disabled mother became very ill and was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. I was the only one who was able to take care of her. My social responsibilities became even greater from caring for my mom, who lived in a different country with no medical insurance to cover healthcare costs. I had to care for my family and mother while going to school at the same time.
My Uplifting Music of Today
My inspiration for writing songs of hope began while enduring all of these challenges and barriers. I had nothing left to cling to but the hope that God knows the reason for everything. I was inspired to write songs around the theme of hope for change in this society, whether spiritual, social, economic, or political.
